My Fears before Moving to Fiji

Expat in Fiji

Hi, I’m Emma. I’m moving to Fiji and my middle name is Fear.

Here are my many fears about the upcoming move.

9. Have I installed the correct Aps?
Is Find My Friends, Quakefeed, companion call and Global Disaster System enough? Will these apps all fit on my phone? Do I have to upgrade my phone to fit them?

8. Views

Will my house have a nice view, preferably coastal?

7. Haggling for groceries

Food is best bought at local markets where you barter for prices. I’m sure I’m going to be very bad at this!

6. Bank accounts

Which bank account will give me the best conversion rate? I will only accept the best.

5. Death by Coconut

Falling coconuts is a serious problem in island countries, causing more deaths than sharks. Will I die by coconut?

Death trap.

4. Security

Will my apartment get robbed? Will I get mugged?

3. Cyclone

Will my house fall down? Will I get blown away?

2. Tsunami

Will Fiji be washed away while I am living there?

1. How will I watch a Game of Thrones?

Do they even have Foxtel in Fiji? I can’t watch Game of Thrones after the rest of the world! What is this agony!!?

Lol at number 5. My colleagues had also warned me about death by a coconut dropping on my head. Only two weeks ago when I was walking to work I actually witnessed a coconut falling from a tree. I’m guessing the higher rate of deaths by coconut is because so many people just sit beneath the trees and socialise?

Haha maybe! Also maybe because there are too many coconut trees to avoid them! I’ve noticed at the hotels that a man has to go whack the coconut trees every morning to make sure any loose coconuts fall!
